Tá scoláireachtaí ar fáil ó CLG Thír Eoghain do na Coláistí Samhraidh sa Ghaeltacht i mbliana. Gheobhaidh tú an fhoirm iarratais  anseo. Ní mór an fhoirm seo bheith comhlíonta agus curtha ar ais chuig Ceannáras CLG Thír Eoghain, Garbhachadh roimh 12 nóin Dé hAoine 15 Bealtaine 2015.

Scholarships are available from Tyrone GAA for the  Summer Colleges in the Gaeltacht this year. You will find the application form  here. The completed form must be returned to the Tyrone GAA Centre, Garvaghey by 12 noon on Friday 15th May 2015.

A good crowd of interested local people from Coalisland and other areas of East Tyrone packed into Western House on Wed 23/4/15 to learn about the current Irish Language Bill that is out for public consultation until 5 May 2015. Caoimhín Mac Giolla Bhéin and Pádraig Ó Tiarnaigh from Conradh na Gaeilge travelled up to  explain the process and a representative from DCAL was present  to answer any queries regarding submissions from the public. 

Pobal's in-depth proposals for what an Irish Language Act should contain were also discussed and explained. They are based on best practice in the application of  indigneous and minority language laws in various countries around the world. A few weeks ago, their proposals received the backing of 9 University Professors, each a recognised authority in the area of language law, as the best foundation for an Irish Language Act.  

Arsing from our meeting, a range of online methods were recommended for people when submitting their support for the bill to DCAL. Take note that citizens living in other countries are also allowed to submit applications, so please encourage your family, relations and friends in the huge Irish diaspora abroad to become involved. People of all ages can submit their support as well.

B). For citizens who have time to make a more considered submission, The Irish Language version of the official Bill submission document  with Pobal's recommendations included is available below. An individual can add their own thoughts and email it  to DCAL at consultations@dcalni.gov.uk

C). For citizens who have time to make a more detailed submission, the English Language version of the official Bill submission document with Pobal's recommendations included is available below. An individual can add their own thoughts and email it to DCAL at consultations@dcalni.gov.uk

The online methods are much faster and efficient than by post but should anyone which to submit paper versions of the above or a simple note, a short letter, a long letter - whatever form of written submission that suits - make sure it arrives on or before Tuesday 5th May 2015.

International experts support POBAL proposals for legislation

Nine of the world’s foremost authorities on language have signed a public letter to say that  legislative proposals published by the Irish language advocacy organisation POBAL, make a major contribution to debate on an Irish Language Bill, and should be used as the basis for the Irish Language Act in the North.

The Experts are based in universities in Ireland north and south, in Scotland, Wales, England and Canada, and include Professor Colin Williams of Cardiff University, Professor Dónall Ó Baoill of QUB, Conchúr Ó Giollagáin of Galway University and the University Of the Highlands and Islands, Professor Linda Cardinal from the University of Ottawa and Professor Robert Dunbar of Edinburgh University. All the Experts note the commitment to bring in the Act given by the British government in the St Andrews’ Agreement  and the fact that international bodies at the United Nations and the Council of Europe have also supported the call for legislative protection for Irish in the North.

Janet Muller, POBAL’s CEO said, ‘We are delighted that these experts have supported the comprehensive POBAL proposals as the best way forward for government to ensure that the Irish language is protected and that services are developed in a strategic way. POBAL has spearheaded the campaign for the Irish language Act and after comprehensive consultation with the community and with advice from experts, we published strong, rights-based consistent proposals in the document The Irish language Act Issue 2. The current consultation ends on 5th May and we should like to encourage the community to send in submissions to the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure calling for the adoption of the POBAL proposals as the best way forward.’
